Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When was Act on Carbon formed?
A: The company was formed in April 2009.
Q: Is the company jumping on the 'Climate Change' bandwagon?
A: Certainly not; like most of the UK population we are concerned about the effects Climate Change is having on our planet. 'For all our generations' is our passion and driving force and encompasses everything that the company is striving to do; helping the public, businesses and housing providers combat climate change for generations now and in the future.
Q: You are a new company, what experience in the energy industry do you have?
A: We have been working in this industry since 1996. During this period we have managed both private and social sector insulation schemes ranging from £10k to over £1 million. Our experience also extends to the commercial sector with particular focus on Energy and Project Management along with an extensive knowledge of the utility sector having worked with most of the large operators as a consultant. We have built a reputation amongst our fellow professionals and clients for being fair, honest, hard working and always delivering on our promises.
Q: Why should we choose to work with Act on Carbon?
A: As previously stated we have worked for many years in the private and social sector. We have seen how other companies work and looked at what has worked, what hasn't and what could have been done to make it work more efficiently. Armed with this information we wanted to develop a company that would offer the very best in customer care, on delivery and cost effectiveness. We are not greedy; we believe the funding has been put in place to help the vulnerable and not to line our pockets. Just because we are a new company it doesn't mean to say we cannot deliver; in the same way just because a company has been around for some time and has a nice plush office doesn't mean they are any good.
Q: What part of the country do you operate in?
A: We have offices in Derbyshire and Wales. However, we cover every inch of the British Isles and we will travel the length and breadth of the country to meet with potential clients and manage your project.
Q: Who pays your wages?
A: Most of the projects we work on are CERT and CESP funded. This funding comes from the power utilities like E.ON, British Gas, etc. These same companies pay us a management fee to 'manage' projects on their behalf. Because of this it is highly unlikely that you as client will have to pay Act on Carbon anything. There are exemptions of course; where you have asked us to manage a specific project that doesn't attract CERT/CESP funding then of course we will have to charge a management fee but we always give you value for money.
Q: Would we have to pay any 'up front' charges?
A: No; if it is a CERT funded project then the preliminary work comes free of charge. We take the risk of taking on a project and hoping that CERT funding will come in. If the funding bid proves unsuccessful then no charge will be made to your organisation; it is our loss.
Q: When would we receive our portion of CERT Funding?
A: Normally the utilities request monthly submissions of work; detailing the completed measures. Once this has been verified and confirmed the submission goes to the utilities. Payments are usually made 60 days from receipt of submission. However, this 60 days is only an example and can be shorter or longer.
Q: Would we have to find our own energy installers?
A: No, we have our own network of energy professionals and this list can be utilised should you wish. Wherever possible we always try and use local labour as this brings many benefits. All installers are thoroughly checked and assessed making sure they conform to all relevant H & S working practices, are registered with the appropriate governing bodies and are capable of delivering the type and scale of project put before them.
Q: Which installers do you use for home energy grants?
A: We only use installers that we have previously worked with or have come with an excellent reputation. These installers now form part of our installer network and have to conform to strict guidelines on health and safety, quality assurance and customer care.
Q: How does the process work for home insulation grants?
A: On receipt of your enquiry we will phone you to ascertain more information. We then agree a convenient date for the surveyor to come and make sure the measure you require is suitable for your home. Once the survey is complete we will send the results over to our preferred installer who will make the necessary arrangements with you to install the work.
Q: Is the work guaranteed?
A: Yes, all cavity installation work carries a 25 year CIGA guarantee.
